Introduction: a little about my journey with flower essences

I discovered flower essence therapy in the midst of a tumultuous time in my life over 10 years ago while living abroad. They helped me find my footing, course-correct, and come into a more authentic appreciation of who I am and what I need.

A naturopath recommended some Bach flower essences, which I took more out of desperation than really believing that something would shift. I remember feeling quite astonished at the difference in my emotional state, my perspective, my relationship to myself, and my choices. I had never tried anything like it. I do tend to be open to and actively seek out nontraditional and indigenous wisdom, and I have experienced and can vouch for the benefits of homeopathy and other holistic frameworks such as Ayurveda and TCM. However, the world of flower essences opened a wholly new dimension to transformation and healing for me. It has brought me closer to nature and nourished my innate capacity for listening beyond the five senses. It has also helped me feel more at home in my own vision for my life and its possibilities, and less like an alien.

A few years later, I moved back to the U.S. and came across Alaskan Essences, which is the main system I use now for myself and in my practice. It is a comprehensive and balanced system that combines the application of flower essences with gem and environmental essences. I find that this combination lends a special harmony and stability to the work, and gives us many options for how to approach a given challenge or foster a desired direction of growth. We can expand our consciousness, ground our insights into the body so that they are lived, and draw on the wild, raw, adaptable forces of nature to help move us through difficult patterns and situations into new possibilities.

At the same time, I have deep respect for, and trust in, other flower essence systems that I’ve learned about and used. Each one has its place and its unique signature of healing. When it feels appropriate, I draw on essences that I know well from Australian Bush, Desert Alchemy, and Bach, and I am in the process of furthering my education to get to know these systems in greater depth.

Introduction: a little about

What are flower essences and how are they made?

What are flower essences and how are they made?

Flower essences are vibrational remedies sourced from the living web of nature. They are created in conscious and intentional cooperation with the devas, or inherent overseeing intelligence, of each flower. The process generally involves immersing the flowers in water and, with help from the sun and other elements, a vibrational imprint or ‘essence’ is created over a period of time. The imprinted water contains the healing intelligence and wisdom of the flower. The water is then poured into a prepared bottle of alcohol or other preservative such as glycerin to stabilize the information captured in it. This constitutes the ‘stock’ bottle, which is then further diluted for individual applications.

Other types of essences, which are made from gems, environments, or other aspects of nature, such as the elements, are prepared in a similar way. They may be used on their own or paired with flower essences in a formulation to help impart balance to the blend and/or to deepen and consolidate certain directions of change and growth.

How do they help? What can they do for me?
How do they help? What can they do for me?

As remedies, flower essences have subtle yet potent actions that can be used to bring about positive changes in an individual’s energy field, consciousness, and life.

They help restore inner balance, promote energy wellness and stability, cultivate psychological resilience, and foster spiritual transformation and growth. Their applications are quite varied and come down to what a particular individual is needing.

Some common applications include:

  • Transitions, such as job or career change, loss of a loved one, divorce, marriage, birth of a new child, moving homes, switching schools, and redefining one's identity

  • Tuning into one's life purpose

  • Feelings of overwhelm or oversensitive

  • Healing karmic, ancestral wounds and receiving gifts from ancestors

  • Emotional balance

  • Communication, in groups and individuals, with nature, within oneself, with others

  • Spiritual emergencies and 'awakening' experiences, especially support for integration and grounding

  • Attunement to greater dimensions of support, such as from nature, one's spiritual family, and the universe

  • Addressing limiting beliefs, such as those related to abundance

  • Fostering positive psychological qualities, such as self-esteem, confidence, healthy body image, self-compassion, and hope

  • Encouraging the formation of healthy attitudes and behaviors, such as self-care

  • Clutter clearing

  • Support for animal companions, such as neglect, abuse, or adjusting to a new home

  • Relationships

  • Improving mind/body connection

  • Balanced expression of feminine/masculine and yin/yang, or cultivation of one or other of these qualities

  • Coping with chronic conditions, especially the underlying emotional and mental imbalances

  • Addictions or inability to resolve ingrained behavioral or psychological habits

  • Difficulties with learning, attention/focus, or absorbing information, including ADHD and ADD

  • Emotional, psychological and energetic imprints of trauma*, chronic or sudden, including PTSD, shock, developmental trauma, and injuries, illnesses, abuse, bullying, and accidents

...and so much more!

*A note about trauma: If you are working to resolve traumatic imprints with or without flower essences, it is advisable to have a comprehensive support team in place. Flower essence therapy can be a very beneficial adjunct to existing care you may be receiving, and does not require you to re-live the traumatic experience. However, it is not a substitute for qualified psychological and/or medical attention.

In general, the essences work by broadening and differentiating an individual’s awareness around issues and patterns, which are often stored as beliefs, memories, emotions, sensations, and energies throughout the aura and system. Lifting each layer at a time, as you are ready, the essences help empower you in making new choices at profound levels of your being, which has ripple effects throughout the rest of your life, including your relationships with yourself, with others, and with the world.

How do I take them?

How do I take them?

Flower essences can be taken internally (traditionally under the tongue) or applied externally (e.g., topical skin application, baths, sprays). There are many ways to take them, and we can discuss this in the consultation to suit your situation and preferences.

The essences are typically taken in diluted form from a dosage bottle, which is made to last for a single dosage cycle, typically 4-6 weeks. The dosage bottle contains 75% water, 25% preservative (brandy or glycerin), and a few drops of the chosen essences.

How long do I need to take them?

How long do I need to take them?

It really depends on the issue and how deep-seated and entangled it is with other issues.

Though the essences have an immediate effect, I have found that they reveal their true power, skillfulness, and generosity over time. Layer by layer, they shave away accumulated assaults, injuries, and traumas to the soul, heart, mind, and energy field. No matter how much time has passed, or how many generations ago an issue was born, or how deeply buried something is, they have tremendous reach and resolve to open our awareness and assist us in letting go of what does not serve us. Over time, they help to brighten and clarify our perception, attuning us to what is aligned and true for us. They help us to reorganize our lives and our energy so that we can thrive to the best of our ability in the present and for as long as we are here.

Are they safe? Who can take them?

Are they safe? Who can take them?

The essences are safe for anyone, from infants to those in their older years. They can also be given to animals. In addition, they do not interact with anything else you might be taking, such as medications, nutritional supplements, herbs, or homeopathic remedies.

How do we work together?

We generally will have an initial consultation where we learn more about your history, needs, and overall goals, and agree on a place to begin. After that, it is common to meet every 2-6 weeks to check in about your experience with the blend, any changes you've noticed and how you're doing overall.

You can come in whenever an issue arises, or you can choose to receive support on a more regular basis. I do find that the most in-depth and comprehensive work happens from using the essences consistently over time, but I also very much invite your own knowing about rhythms and what works best for you.

My prices are below and include the fees for a consultation, a custom blend, and shipping within the U.S. (if you live elsewhere, there may be a small additional shipping fee). If it is our first time working together, please set aside an additional 10-15 mins for the initial consultation.

If you are new to me (as a flower essence client), please note the Welcome Offer below, which is a series of 3 consultations to help you get acquainted with flower essences and offer a taste of what it is like to work with them. You also receive additional support sessions (see next) at a discount.

If you would like additional in-between session support, I offer 25-minute conversations over Zoom or phone. This support can be helpful when you are in crisis and want a listening ear, are relatively new to essence work and want help discerning changes from taking the essences, or simply want to be reflected to clarify your own understanding of what is happening on your journey/the big picture.
